1. What are the System requirements for ManageEngine OpUtils 5?

Supported JDK - JDK 1.5 and above is required for ManageEngine OpUtils.

Platforms - ManageEngine OpUtils is platform independent and supports operating systems such as - Windows 2000, Windows NT, RedHat Linux 7.x and above.

Supported Browsers for OpUtils are - Internet Explorer 5.5 and above, Netscape 7.0 and above, and Mozilla Firefox 1.0 and above.

2. Can I install OpUtils in one machine and access it remotely?

Yes. You can install OpUtils in one machine and access the tools from any web browser.

3. What do you mean by Free, Standard, and Professional editions?

Free edition: The free edition of the OpUtils contains the 16 tools of the total 34 tools of the product. At any point of time users can upgrade to the Standard/Professional edition of the product.

Standard edition: The standard edition of oputils contains 27 tools of the total 34 tools of the product. At any point of time users can upgrade to the Professional edition of the product.

Professional edition: The Professional edition of the OpUtils product includes all the 34 tools of the product.

4. What is meant by "Community"?

Community refers to the SNMP Community string of the device being queried. This will be required in tools that used SNMP to get the required details. In most cases, a read-only community string is sufficient.

5. What do you mean by a MIB database?

The MIB database is a collection of MIBs bundled with the product. This database is useful to monitor any specific device on your network. The SNMP tools such as SNMP walker and the MIB browser would help in monitoring and collecting data about any device on your network using the MIB database.

6. What protocols are used to collect / retrieve data?

ManageEngine OpUtils uses SNMP, CLI, ICMP, ARP and reverse lookup protocols such as DNS.

7. I don't have SNMP installed in my machine. What should I do?

You can monitor any device using SNMP tools from ManageEngine OpUtils. You can use the Custom Tools to create user-specific tools to monitor any specific SNMP - enabled device in your network.

Licensing

1. How is OpUtils Licensed?

OpUtils is licensed based on the following:

  1. Number of distinct users using the product.
  2. Total number of switch ports managed using the Switch Port Mapper tool.
  3. Total number of IP Addresses managed using the IP Address Manager tool.

The base version can manage up to 500 switch ports in Switch Port mapper and 500 IP Addresses in the IP Address Manager tools. Additional Switch ports/IP Addresses has to be licensed separately. This is applicable only in the Professional Edition as the Standard Edition do not include Switch Port Mapper and IP Address Manager tools.

  1. Select the Reports --> Network Report.
  2. This will display a Port Availability summary as a pie chart.
  3. The sum of the ports in all the states (Transient, Available, Used) will give the total number of Switch Ports that you currently manage using the Switch Port Mapper tool.

  1. Select the Reports --> Network Report.
